Where I’ve Frolicked

My first out of the country experience was in the summer of 1999 when I was 19 years old. My father & I went on a whirlwind trip to Thailand for just a little over a week. I remember thing Bangkok was the grossest place I had ever seen. I swore for years I wouldn’t go back! Now I have been there 3 times over the 2 years and you know what I love it! It’s funny how a little age and travel experience changes your perception. This is one of the greatest benefits of traveling! So get out there and see something new or revisit somewhere and see if your opinions on the world change!

Where I have been:

When it comes to counting places you have visited there are two different ways to calculate it. You can use either the list of countries classified by the United Nations or the Travelers Century Club. What’s the difference? I never knew about the difference before I read about them on Kyle The Vagabond‘s site. So thank you Kyle for expanding my knowledge on the world ;)

Currently I have been to 42 different countries as classified by the United Nations, and 45 different countries as classified by the Travelers Century Club. I do not count airports, If you haven’t had to go through customs than it doesn’t count!

How exciting it is to watch the map color in! I do not count airport layovers either. It kind of sucks because my first passport stamp was Iceland, which impresses some people. But I did not leave the airport so it does not count.

Iceland is still a dream destination for me! Watching the color fill in is quite addictive. Not sure how I will stay put for the rest of 2013…
