Where To Eat In Maui: Maui’s Best Burger
Food cravings, they happen to the best of us. Sometimes it is for something that reminds you of your childhood, something familiar in a foreign land, a drunken bad decision or a biological need for lacking vitamins. One of my most important travel questions besides where can I find cheap tickets is, “Where to eat in (fill in any destination)?” and one of my frequently craved foods are hamburgers.
On my last trip home to Maui a few friends and I hopped in the car and went for a drive to nowhere in particular. The locals call it ‘island fever’ and it is a state of restlessness that engulfs you after endless days of sunshine, beaches and being surrounded by nothing but ocean. For me this usually happens after about 10 days of being on Maui. A drive with good music and friends often cures me of this fever.
On this particular day we drove out to Kaupo. This is one of my favorite drives in all of Hawaii. It is the back way to Hana and most car rental companies will say you can’t go this way but trust me the road is fine and the scenery is so unique!
On the way back we stopped at a new roadside stand called “Bully’s Burger’s.”
This stand is operated by the children of longtime Maui rancher Bully DePonte who’s beef has been famous on the islands for years. Maui beef is one of the things I am most excited for when I return home. The natural free range meat is so delicious and you will often see it in some of the finer dining establishments on the island for a hefty price tag. At the burger stand you not only get to give back to the community you are visiting but you get to treat yourself to some of the best meat you will ever have at a bargain!
The burgers are so moist the juices drip down your arms! The view is one of the best on the islands! The remoteness of the area gives you a taste of true Hawaii far from the crowded tourist beaches of Lahaina and Wailea. Just look at the photos below and try to tell me your mouth isn’t watering!
The burgers at Bully’s Burger’s range in cost from $9 – $12 and there is even a vegetarian option.

They just don’t make burgers like that here in Germany
Maybe we should plan a trip to Maui together…
Love the pics. We’ve been craving a burger for so long that we finally broke down and went to our first McDonald’s in a year, in Paris of all places. They’re featuring a McBaguette which was pretty damn good, better than the US burgers.
Cheers!

No judgement here
You gotta do what you gotta do!
I have gone off burgers now. My obsession with Big mac and Burger king did that. Try eating loads of them and you won’t crave any more! Trust me, it works!!

There must be something magical about burgers that create a special craving in the stomachs of Americans. Glad you found a tasty place to get your fix!
