My Favorite Place In Southeast Asia
Koh Rong, Cambodia is a small island off the cost of Sihanoukville. You can book your boat ride, 2 hours and $15 return trip, and your lodging with Monkey Republic in town for their bungalows on the island. Quite simply, if you have the chance to go, go!
Especially in the next 5 years, they are going to build an airport there and the island will be changed forever. Now it is simply empty and gorgeous.
In addition to the change that this airport will bring to the island The New York Times recently deemed it 1 of the 45 places to go in 2012.
My suggestions. Stay at Monkey Island, bring a good amount of cash as there are no ATMs on the island, Do hike to the far side of the island, enjoy the 7km empty whitest sand beach you have ever seen, stay for the sunset, and take the fishing boat back to you beach front bungalow!

You HAVE TO GO!!! Seriously, if you are in Cambodia there is no other choice! It is so gorgeous there! Bring a good book and lots of sunscreen

I remember going to an Island next to this one called Koh Rong Solaoem! It was THE MOST BEAUTIFULEST BEACH I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. Too bad I didn’t get a chance to go to this Island. I will be back!!!
Thank you for you ramazing advice. I’m planning christmas in Cambodia and then have a whole year to travel. I’m very nervous as I have no idea where the path I tread will lead me. After reading some of your enthusiastic and inspirational blogs I feel more confident and assured that my year away will be a trip of a lifetime. After landing in Bangkok on 12th December, I’ll be heading directly to Sihanoukville and Koh Rong to rest and prepare for the rest of my journey. x
